Across My Desk, offers behind-the-scenes access to my journey creating beautyIRL, a beauty and wellness social club.👷🏾♀️✨
I’ve learned a lot since launching beautyIRL. The most significant is that marketing is really hard, and if I had a budget, I’d outsource it ASAP. Alas, it’s just me and my premium Canva count against the world. While this may just be an extension of my marketing gap, getting brand buy-in is also realllllly hard. Of the 101 brands I contacted about supporting our first event, three replied, two said yes, and one sent samples.
Let’s pause to celebrate our first yes from Black Girl Sunscreen. It isn’t lost on me that the first and immediate yes to supplying an event for Black women is this beloved Black owned brand. ✨
I was reminded that I am great at pivoting. I had a very swanky, dim, cocktail-style event in mind for the first event. Unfortunately, none of the spaces I visited returned my calls. Because I didn’t want to put off the first event any longer, beautyIRL’s first event will be outside. I present to you, beautyIRL’s Hot Girl Hike. If you’re in the Tampa area, feel free to join us. If not, feel free to share the flyer anyway.
I want to host the swanky, cocktail-style beauty event soon, but the mission is to create experiences that help people make friends and interact with their favorite brands simultaneously. And, I’m not waiting for any venues to give me permission to begin.
To-Do List:
Revisit the hiking trail because I didn’t write down which parking lot I wanted everyone to meet in.😅
Send out a reminder email to everyone who RSVP’d for the event (eeek).
Keep sharing the event with friends, and ask them to share it with their friends.
I sent the invite to a new friend, and she immediately replied and asked if she could share it with a few people she knew. Girl yes!
External Inspo: This conversation between Quinta Brunson and Amy Poehler was so good. It’s a funny chat between two successful and confident women that ends up being unintentionally inspiring. Keep an ear out for Quinta’s comment about why she isn’t surprised that her hard work led her to the life she has today.
On Repeat: This is one of those “it’s new to me, so I’m going to play it nonstop” songs. Olivia Dean’s Be My Own Boyfriend is a reminder that we can give ourselves what we need, even professionally.
If you’re building something, please leave a comment or reply to this email and tell me about it. Knowing you’re not building things alone makes everything better. 💌
Congrats on your new venture!
I'm currently building my Substack account Journey to Authenticity. I'm getting to know myself out in the open hoping to help others navigate doing the same and creating a community of like minded individuals who can support each other.
