BlackBeautyPop has been postponed until next Thursday. Each week I write to ya'll from my home state of Florida. As you likely know, this week we are under threat of a catastrophic hurricane. I was born and raised here, so hurricanes typically don't worry me. This is the first time I've ever evacuated my home.
I say this with the full acknowledgment that it is an immense privilege to even have the option to leave. Although, none of us should be suffering under the weight of capitalist engendered climate disaster. And, not being able to afford to escape its consequences is a sick extension of the vicious cycle many are trapped in.
In lieu of a longer post I'll share a roundup of pieces that I read recently, and will be thinking about for awhile. The pieces span my interests in beauty, environmental justice, and the loss of human connection.
Of these articles, I am most excited to share the one about how the genocide in Gaza exacerbates the climate crisis. The piece serves as a reminder that our liberation is inextricable, and denying anyone's humanity collapses our own.
We have prepared as best we can for the storm, and hope there is minimal damage for everyone else in Milton's path. I am writing to you from a safe place and hope that you are reading it in kind.
