In-flight Notes
I'm traveling a lot this holiday season, and because I didn't want to travel with more than one laptop BlackBeautyPop is happening in my notes app. Below are my notes, thoughts, & ideas captured on the move.
Plane I | 12.19
Increasing number of women in my feed are over "getting beautiful." One claims she is "rejecting aesthetics" while another says that keeping up with beauty maintenance is just too much. What all of these women seem to be describing is a frustration with services like:
• hair
• nails
• lashes
• clothes
• shoes
• accessories
• waxes for face & body
• laser
Maybe it's simple economics & meeting current beauty trends costs more than we can afford. If so, what's going on in the world that being beautiful isn't a cost effective "investment"? Or, is it an intentional shift away from costly & limited beauty ideals? 🤔

I wanted to convey playfulness, poise, & witty. I plan to write more about how shopping as a plus sized person means it can be difficult to find items that with a specific look in mind.
Here were some of my must haves:
• deep color
• exaggerated shoulders
• dark tights/stockings
• fun hair (ponytail or big curls)

Plane II | 12.21
Audrey Gelman is running a cottagecore-esque store. Is the former girl boss's shift endemic of a larger cultural change? That is, the large scale commodification of the peaceful girls/soft life aesthetic.
*It has already happened, but when one of the queen bee girl bosses gets involved....*
